The volume includes a total of 99 documents, found in Areas C and F. Three periods are represented: Old Hana (Area C), late Šakkanakku and Old Babylonian (Area F). The ten documents of the Šakkanakku period - legal and administrative - present data that are rather new: they illustrate the specificity of the scribal tradition during this period, but at the same time they show that some characteristics of the Old Babylonian legal documents find their origin there. Of the 62 Old Babylonian documents, around 20 are of administrative type (management of workers, various distributions, recording of the production of fields, etc) and 10 are letters. Two legal texts are particularly interesting: a contract of division of heritage and a report of a lawsuit mentioning the governor Kibri-Dagan and the royal judge. School texts and a literary fragment written in emesal dialect show that a high level scribal school functioned at Terqa at that time. Lastly, a fragment of a divinatory report and allusions in the letters give information on these types of activity. Among the 27 texts of the time of Hana, we find the same typology: administrative documents and letters, school, legal and religious texts, this last category being represented by a list of offerings to the goddess Ninkarrak, found in her temple.

ARED—Archivi Reali di Ebla, (Edizione) Digitale

1. Texts of ARET I-V; VII-IX; XI , Lucio Milano. 2011. CD.
ARED I provides a digital edition of a substantial number of texts from the Ebla Royal Archives, previously published in the ARET series (Archivi Reali di Ebla, Testi - Roma) by Università di Roma "La Sapienza," i.e., volumes I (1985), II (1981), III (1982), IV (1984), V (1984), VII (1988), VIII (1986), IX (1990), XI (1993). The texts in ARED I appear in the same format as in the ARET volumes, their content being subdivided into paragraphs according to syntactic units. Although the digital edition basically reflects the original one, it can be considered in all respects as a revised edition of ARET, since many collations and corrections have been added to the entire corpus. In the course of several years, a team of epigraphers collaborating with the Ebla Archaeological Expedition to Syria has reworked this documentation, has corrected misprints and mistakes, harmonized transliterations and introduced new readings both for syllabic and logographic values. In a forthcoming CD (ARED II), more recent ARET volumes will be added to the ARED I database, along with excerpts from unpublished texts presented over the time in articles and monographs devoted to the Ebla sources. The texts are tagged so they can be searched in a variety of ways, using the program WordCruncher that is included with the CD.
